Claymont Dust Study - June 18, 2009
The Claymont Community Coalition (CCC) and Global Community Monitor (GCM) released the Claymont Dust Study Report
on June 16, 2009.
After careful review of the document, it is clear that this "new" report is simply a repackaging of data and
information that GCM presented earlier this year.
After GCM first presented their data to the public, we assembled scientists to provide expert evaluation of the same
data set. The experts presented their findings at a public meeting hosted by our company at the Claymont Elementary
School on Saturday, March 14, 2009.
Because there is no new information or data provided in the latest CCC/GCM Report, the assessment of the GCM data
by expert scientists back in March remains valid.
At that meeting:
- The expert panel noted that there is no evidence of violations of EPA standards or guidelines for lead or
manganese.
- The air modeling expert concluded that based on the data collected by GCM, the measured concentrations of lead and
manganese, did not support GCM’s conclusions pinpointing Evraz Claymont Steel as the sole source of dust.
- The toxicologist and specialist in human health risk reported that the potential health effects suggested in
the Claymont Dust Study are exaggerated, generate unnecessary fear and are unsupported by the data presented in
the Study.

As the largest recycler in the State of Delaware, Evraz Claymont Steel is committed to resource conservation, re-use and
environmental best practices.
We care about our community and the environment in which we work and live.
We strive to maintain a healthy workplace and be a responsible neighbor.
It is also important to recognize that, during the past few years, the Company has undertaken many projects at
significant expense to substantially reduce dust emissions from our operations, and we believe those efforts to have
been successful. At our public information meeting in March, we reviewed these projects and many continuing projects. We
continue to pursue additional opportunities in this area as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.
Evraz Claymont Steel is committed to ensuring that our facility is in compliance with the regulations, and has undertaken
to effectively communicate with the Regulators in that context.
In addition, we are a community partner and are committed to playing a role in resolving any issues raised by our
neighbors concerning our operations.
Claymont Green Day - June 13, 2009
This annual clean-up of the Claymont community was a great day for over 50 Evraz Claymont Steel employees who
volunteered. We wore our green shirts while removing trash from the roadsides. We also provided a crew and large
industrial recycling bin at the Claymont Community Center and invited our neighbors (in advance) to bring us
recyclable metals, such as steel furniture, shelving and racking systems, bicycle frames, machine parts, structural
steel, steel pipe and fencing, car and truck rims, etc. And with our help, the community recycled approximately
2,000 lbs. of unwanted metal objects on that day.
